Loraine Van Slyke is a family nurse practitioner, and she is honored to be a member of the health team at APEX Family Medicine. Her path to the field of health has been somewhat unique in that she began with a Bachelor of Science degree in Biology from St. Lawrence University in New York and continued on to receive a second Bachelor’s degree as well as a Master of Science in Nursing at Emory University in Atlanta, Georgia. Her studies have taken her from biomedical research in Boston to Children’s Hospital Los Angeles, to remote village clinics in Northern India and rural family practices in West Virginia.
From these experiences, she began her career in an urgent care setting becoming skilled in evaluating and managing acute medical conditions in Denver’s more underserved populations. She then transitioned into family medicine where delivering comprehensive patient-centered health care and promoting wellness through education have become the cornerstone of her practice philosophy as an FNP. She feels very fortunate to be given the opportunity to work with APEX as they serve and act as health advocates for the community. She is also excited about exploring life as a Colorado resident. She grew up in Portland, Maine where her love of the outdoors began. In turn, she spends much of her free time hiking, skiing, running, and enjoying all that this beautiful city and state have to offer.
